I have a 2000 Searay Sundancer 340 with 7.4 MPI V-drives. It won't go above 4000 RPM. At 4000 RPM, it is going about 21 knots. The bottom is clean and I just had a full service with compression check on the engines. I can't figure out what is wrong with it. Any suggestions?

Remove excess weight, experiment with trim tabs [is it squatting?], compare prop specs and performance results with other RO's with same/similar boat. Verify that engine spark timing is correct, maybe somebody didn't do it right.
Is this problem new, or was it performing better till you had the full service?

more details neeed. how long have you had the boat ? has it been gradually loosing perfrmance or all of a sudden ? did you check to see if the tabs work ? any vibrations ?

what's a full service anyway... there isn't much in there that can affect performance. I'm surprised the shop didn't sea trial the boat after service.

if compression is good, etc.. then the props have to be suspect.

OR.. check the throttle cables, make sure they are actaully moving the throtlle fully open

At 4000 RPM, you should close to, or even above 30 knots. A tuned 340DA with big blocks has all the power it needs - with or without tabs.

I'm thinking you're dragging a fishing net, or are severely overpropped...?
