I have a 1994 24OV with a 7.4 that turns 4600 rpm. Had it tuned late in the year, took the mechanic for a ride and we even tweaked it while underway. The problem is that it will only do 30mph. We have tried everything, including trimming the boat while underway, empty boat, just painted, no barnicles. Prop is exactly what came on the boat as far a size and pitch. I have a 2 neighbors who have the same boat and they "claim" to do mid 40's mph. Even if they did not say anything, I would think that 24' and 7.4 should do better than 30mph. Anyone with the same boat or any suggestions. Thanks Steve

Speed reading from speedometer or gps? if it's not way under propped, it should run in mid to high 40's, maybe just a little faster. Sounds like speedometer reading and is incorrect.

Hi Harlan, thanks for the reply, reading is GPS. Prop company tells me this is the right one and Sea Ray says its right. I don't agree. Steve

Just because it came with the boat doesn't mean it's the right prop. What pitch and size are you running? Is it a 3, 4 or 5 bladed? Is it aluminum, composite or stainless? Is 4,600 RPM WOT? Are you boating at sea level? I'm just trying to get a baseline because there are so many variables that are overlooked.

I hit high 30's to low 40's in my regal 2465 with a 5.0L 220 HP Volvo.

I'm thinking water beneath the deck. I had a Formula F233 years ago. Water had gotten in from wherever and saturated the flotation. I'll bet I pulled out over 500 pounds of the stuff.
