A friend of mine is looking at a 1999 2760 with the single EFI big block. I see most on line have the twin 4.3 V6's. Anyone out there with the single powerplant? Does it perform well?

WHICH big block?!? Which drive.

I wouldn't "diss" sleds this close to Christmas H....if you know what I mean! :D[:-eyebrows]

IMO, she's gonna struggle dependent on load. Go to the Volvo Penta Engine Configurator on thier www. For the weight enter the fully loaded weight including fuel and provisions and pax.

They went for a test ride. Owner, my friend and spouse and 3 kids. Boat ran in the mid 40's at WOT. They were happy.

Pretty impressive! I have an older Regal that weighs about 1400 pounds less with the 7.4L Bravo One. I only get low-mid 40's out of it. How I boat and where I boat, I would not want want twins. Twice the maintenance, twice the failures, and half the space to work in.

Twice the safety, twice the reliability, twice the maneuverability, twice the chance of getting home!

After owning single and twins, I would opt for the single if performance issues are a moot point. If you are well maintained and have SeaTow or BoatUS available in your cruising area, this is a no-brainer.

IMHO it's much easier to control/operate with twins.

Double the engines and double the issues. I can put my boat on the trailer in 30+ mph winds with a single screw. As for getting home? I boat on a river and that's not a big concern.

I've owned a 2860/2760. Twins is DEF the way to go. I'm not saying a single is bad; just not for me!

As for double the issues, pifft, small price to pay for the multiple benefits.

Good for him.

I agree on twin screw tight quarter handling v. single. Maintenance more than doubles in price with twins. Room in the ER with a single...Priceless.
