Get the Meridian 341 or the Carver 36 SS

If you're talking current year, I would lean towards the Carver 36ss as well, was on one about six weeks ago up in Minnesota, found it to be very small, didn't much care for the top heavy looks either. Can't comment on performance, as we did not take it out, but we did consider a new 36 SB, before buying the 42 and glad we did not, would be okay for a couple, but tight for kids, and if I recall correctly, the aft couches were too short to sleep on. Even the dealers we talked to don't understand the logic behind this boat, and really doubt she will be in production for any length of time. In the stats department, She was actually shorter than our 340 dancer, which seemed to me to have more realistic sleeping capability... If you have not been on one yet, I would definately spend sometime on one before moving any farther...but that is just me... Fit and finsih was very nice however, and if remember correctly, the bow was steep and not to my liking. The aft cockpit and bridge were okay, but didn't blow our minds... With 8.1's/horizon, I would expect she would be powered well however.
take a CLOSE look at the swim platform. Not only is it like 3' above the water level but note it's relative position to the trim tabs. Since the boats hull goes straight down from the end of the swim platform the trim tabs stick out beyond the platform big time. I think it's a nice looking boat but the trim tabs is a terrible accident waiting to happen...either someone is going to stand on them and break them off/cause a leak OR someone is going to jump in and hit their head and die or something. They absolutely need to alter the swim platform design ASAP on the current model year.
I have a 2007 36 and was looking for other opinions on the boat. I actually went from a 41 dancer to the 36.....Wanted the 44 sedan, but the money did not grow on the tree this year.....I bought mine with the diesels, searay navigator (awesome) and bow and stern thrusters.....layout worked real well for myself and 2 boys....would the 44 be better.....sure, but the second cabin with 2 beds worked fine....they will not sleep in the same bed so i needed twin beds....boat ran well and could be docked anywhere....without the diesels and thrusters, any 36 bridge boat would be tough in beam winds....

I wish you the best with the boat, and diesel was a great choice. The boat has way to narrow of a beam, and IMHO is a dog compared to the 36C Silverton. If you comapre the specs of both boats, the 36C shines, the LOA on the 36C is over 40 feet and the real hull length is a tad over 37 feet. Access to fix things is so so much better than the searay. In that class of boat,if I wanted a Brunswick boat, I would of chosen the Meridian 34, IMHO a much nicer boat and more spacious than the 36 (which is not a 36 foot boat) Searay. Also the color scheme with the dark pleather on the seats around the table as well as the dark wood makes me wan't to puke. The Meridian or the Silverton are more earth tones and are soothing, IMHO the person that designed the colors on the Searay should be shot, although Stevie Wonder disagrees
The good news is, when you want to move up, the Searay will move quickly and you will not have as much depreciation as a Silverton or Meridian.
Sorry for the rant, but I particpated in a ton of Searay surveys and bitched that they did not have a smaller Flybridge boat. When this boat came out I was all excited till I saw it. When I got past the obvious flaws and got into the bilge, I really got sick. Now being you have diesel(much smaller footprint than gas),your bilge may be ok to work on the motors.

I have a 2007 36 SB It is terrific I also had a 341 meridian and can assure you the 36SB is much better. It is a bigger boat 13' wide instead of 12.6. I am in Sydney Australia and we often cruise the east coast and encounter 2-2.5M seas. The 36 Handles this well at 12-14Kn
I have 380 QSB diesels. Diesel are the only way for a boat this size. Docking is much easier with diesels as props are bigger
