I own a 1994 31 Tiara with 454 fresh water cooled Crusaders. The engines have close to 700 hours and run fine. My boat suffered significant damage during Hurricane Wilma, and will be out of the water for at least another 6 weeks, so I was considering biting the bullet and doing a repower now. I figure if I do it now, I should be good for the next few years, and I end up not paying yard and haulout fees twice.
The good part is that I can buy the parts for cost, and the only labor I have to pay for is any machine shop fees.
I figure there are two ways to go. I can do a bare bones rebuild and change rings bearings and anything else I find, or I can try to increase my performance a bit.
Given the above, what would you do?
