A couple technical questions about our 2001 350 Mariner

I'd like to inspect and clean out the shower sump; what's the best way to access it? I could not find info in my paperwork.

Our vacuflush head is working fine, but I have a feeling I may need to change the duckbill valves this year (I have them ready if needed). The vacuum unit is visible through a small floor hatch in the stateroom, I'm having trouble figuring out how to service it. Do I unscrew the one fastner I can see holding the unit to the bilge floor and slide it under the opening so I work on it?

Thanks for the advice.

are you saying they didn't provide a hatch large enough???

there should be 4 fasteners holding those compact vac tank/pump unit. on those combo, you just need to detach the pump from the tank (4 screws but only two need to be completly removed, the other two go thru a slot), the unscrew the fittings (inlet and outlet) and pull the DB

but if it aint' broken, dont' fix it!

You're right it appears there must be a trick to this, the floor hatch is about 12" x 10". I can reach in with one arm and reach under the floor to touch the port side of the unit, but doubt I could effectivly work on the unit.

Any advice is welcome.

As far as the access to the sump pump, welcome to the world of Carver. I had the same problem when I had to replace my fresh water pump. I spent hours trying to figure out how to do it. It finally hit me what to do and took me about 1-1/2 hours to do the job.

As far as your head goes, ask your question on the sanitation forum. You will get better results there.

I thought Sea Ray held the the patent on systems you can only reach with one arm! :)

Not at all. As bad as the access was to my water pump, the aft cabin sump is much worse.
