2001 6 cyl how important is alignment could not get it real easy to pull out mercruiser

If you cannot use the alignment tool with 2 greasy fingers the motor needs an adjustment

thanks alien1952 just put in new motor and cannot get adjusted rear mounts only had fiber washer no lock washer I raised front up and down canot get it easy in and out

You should also check alignment by rotating engine every 90 degrees. You'll also probably find a point that's easier to insert the alignment tool. Try to adjust to the best average alignment of all 90 degrees. Things just settle in after use and you're not likely to find a perfect fit at all 90 degree points. Sometimes you have to actually adjust one side higher than the other.

They've also made some changes to adjustment spacing for the rear mounts. I don't remember when the changes were made so you'll have to look it up.

If the bottom of the rear mounts are smooth you need the doublewound washer. if there serated you dont
