Does anyone who frequents the West River know of a spot to anchor? I've seen private moorings outside of the Pirates Cove/Thursdays area but I'm not sure if anchoring somewhere past that is allowed. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Not too sure about the West itself but if you don't mind being a bit further away from the action, the Rhode River has some great anchorages. If you hang a right coming into the mouth of the West you're in the Rhode. There's a small cove on your left or you can follow the markers left again into the Big Island area.

There are usually boats anchored over night in the bay on the West by Pirates Cove, but like Sherry, we prefer the Rhode River around Big Island. We drop the hook there a lot.

Just beyond Thursday's across form Chesapeake Yacht club is a great anchorage....don't go to far and stay within the 6mph zone. I don't care for the Rhode to anchor, no speed zone so gets crazy sometimes

Thanks for the info. We've been to the Rhode a few times and it is a nice place but I do wish they had a speed limit. We wanted to be on the West River so we could dinghy over to shore and get a bite at Thursday's or Pirates Cove. Thanks again for the responses.
