And now for something completely different

Interesting that in 1963 such a thing was built in the Soviet Union. I wonder what the original power plant was?

It mentioned some sort of diesel, can't imagine it was a 57mph boat originally.

And what liability at hull speeds with those foils as draft. I wonder what it draws in front?

San Carlos, CA - thats right next door to me
That could be a fun boat in the Delta

The Soviets were head over heels in love with hydrofoils in the 60's. The history mentions the hull was built as a patrol and gun boat so it is starting to makes sense.
Hydrofoils have a fairly low drag profile so I can see it being pretty speedy. The GAZ diesel was a two stroke so it would have a power weight ratio albeit at heavy fuel consumption. All Soviet power plants were fuel inefficient. Interestingly, GAZ was originally a joint venture between Ford and the Soviets.

Did any of you look at the cars listed on the site? There are some WOW!!! cars there.

Yeah, I try to limit myself to 1-2 hours/week of gawking.

Prices seem to go high, just short of Barrett Jackson.

Hydrofoils wee a big deal in the US for a while too. Except for the America's cup boats I don't hear much about them any longer. They achieved some amazing speeds in sailboats but haven't caught on for some reason.
