Hi All,
I need some anti-fouling help. I bought a 25' Paceship Eastwind last fall from a lazy owner that had her for apprx 30 years. His yearly ritual was to simply buy the cheapes hard anti-fouling he could find at West Marine and apply a new coat.
When we pulled her out and pressure washed her, lots of the old paint flaked off, so we decided to remove his years of paint (not fun). So, we have been doing a ton of scraping and sanding to get off approve 1/4" of paint build up, and have finally gotten close to completion. The resulting surface is going to be a mix of smooth paint, something that looks like primer, polyester, maybe some remnants of gel coat, and some bare glass/polyester surface.
I am planning on using ablative paint, but I am anticipating that I need to apply a primer coat first. I've done some reading thru various catalogs, and a few manufactures, and have been getting conflicting ideas. The best I think I have found is Interlux Primacon which is billed as a metal hull primer, but also an excellent tie coat primer between antifouling and fiberglass hulls. Does anyone else have any ideas? I hate to pay Interlux prices if I can help it - unless it is the right soloution.
Thanks!
Cris
