Anyone else wondering if this year will be a wash?

Now more than ever, I want the boat in. My daughter is 10 and an only child. This has been brutal on her. We locked her down early and seeing groups of kids riding bikes didn’t help her disposition! There is only so much FaceTime the kids can do. We did the “virtual sleepovers” but that ran it’s course too. We keep the boat at the house so no crowds. Looking forward to bass, hopefully find flounder and go from there. At least boating is normal to her and she needs normal more than ever.

Hopefully you get in soon so you can get her out of the house.

Dave - who'd you use to sell the boat? I'm afraid ours really needs a new owner this season. . . .

I was using Strongs Marine since they are the Regal dealer. They brought me alot of people, all tire kickers, all low ball offers. I made them change the agreement to say if I sold privately I owed them nothing.

I advertised the boat on social sites. A person ended up seeing it on facebook regal boat group and they made a lowball offer at the end of the season. When I ran the numbers on winterizing, storing, insurance, and saved commsission it turned out to be the best offer of the bunch. So I took it.

I was not happy totally bc I loved the boat and felt offer was still low, but considering the money I had put it and my concern on the future of the pods, and now with this virus crap, I happy she is gone!

It is one less thing I have to worry about right now.

I have moved to my summer Condo Dock, Power and water is on and washrooms/laundry are cleaned daily.
The province has shut all marinas with the exception of true liveaboards for 14 days which can be extended.
We are two boats on a 56 slip facility so social distancing is well covered.

NPS is closing Lake Powell.... Looks like my cruiser will sit in storage until Sept.

I went to a county owned golf course yesterday and it was PACKED! Apparently they are considered essential since they qualify as "mental health".
Precautions are taken, one man per cart and do not touch the pin!

I consider boating to be necessary for my mental health.

Current Sea -- what was your concern on the future of the pods ? I thought they were awesome!

I encountered a issue with both pods getting water in them. After $30K to remove and rebuild both pods, I realized that although I love the tech, I disliked the extra cost. Now one could argued they were rebuilt, but when you read about them rebuilding is a temp fix, the real fix is to replace the pods. At $25K each, that gets even more expensive.

Pods are awesome, I just think Volvo needs to figure out how to get the costs down.

So you have the cost factor which is one thing. The other thing that bothered me was less of a POD issue but more of a Volvo issue. There was only 3 mechanics on Long Island that can do Volvo's and Pods. One of them is a complete loser and will never be allowed on any boat I own again. The other 2 are okay but think their labor is worth more than brain surgeons.

So in the end, cost, reliability, and mechanics were enough to drive me away while I rethink boating in NY.

After having Outboards in Florida, I really like the way they run and handle. My next boat in NY will be either outboards or conventional shafts.

I guess I don't understand the difference between pods and say Bravo III's. They both have the same number of ujoints and 90 degree shaft interfaces yes?

Difference between BIII and pods - unit cost of $ 25,000 vs. $7,500!

Our current boat is much smaller and has an outboard. No longer need a larger boat to access the water. Looking out the window at my home office, I am fortunate to be seeing the Chesapeake Bay. Can't afford waterfront, but water view both ways.Chesapeake Bay 200' one way, Parrish Creek 125' the other way. Walk 500' to our boat whioch is in the marina behind our house.

My boat went in the other day and I brought her home today. All is semi normal in my household now. Special thanks to RO Captcrunch who got me a great insurance policy and rate.

Up here on the north shore of LI it seems like all the marinas and ramps are closed yet I see a few boats in the water out back. Not sure how they got them in, but there must be a way!

I plan to launch next week not sure when I will move it to Stamford but within a week or two. I have had a lot of time on my hands to prep the boat it may be the cleanest it has been in years!

I decided to prep for this season after all. With marinas open and the chance for any vacation this year in jeopardy, the boat may be our only outlet for vacation. So yesterday at my son's request, we went down, removed the shrink wrap, and washed and waxed the whole boat in three hours. That may be a new time record! Next week, paint.

boating seems to be pretty active in Tampa bay and the FL west coast. Restaurants etc are still closed but people are out on the water.

My dock in Stamford is filling in everyone is trying to maintain a respectful social distance. I'm just happy to spend time on the boat! Got to the Boat on Friday late afternoon and didn't return until Sunday evening!
