I will never forget the first time I saw her under sail... That was around 1991 /1990 shortly after th first restoration. I believe she was the only J class afloat back then and it was an incredible sight. Back then she woudlnt even race... Eventually, I think that was either in 91 or 92, she ended up racing in our informal round the Island regatta around st barths. That was way before St. Barths became a mega yacht hub and the St Barths Bucket! You d drive up the hill from the airport and when she was in port the rust thing you d see would be the tip of her mast dwarfing everything else in port !
She has an incredible history, from being the only british challenger to even come close to winning the cup to being abandoned, stripped, sunk and left for dead in the mud. After the initial restorstion she was sold to the Tyco CEO (koslosky ? ) who ended up jail for embezzlement.
Somehow she survived, underwent further reastorations and along the way sparked the resurgence of the J class, totaling 9 boats which should all be in bermuda next year for a massive reunion.
