To those of you who are familiar with this marina - we visited the marina (by car) over the weekend, low tide. Very few fingers at each dock. How on earth do people get on and off their boats during low tide here? We were trying to figure it out, even with the ladders that go down the docks, it would seem very difficult.

We go down to the atlantic Highlands for a yearly fishing trip. With the Docks being a fixed pier you back into the slip and climb up the ladders provided both for high and low tide. Wise to bring gloves since the ladders get quite grimey. YOu tie the boat so it will slid to the rear to allow you to grab the ladder. We enjoy the marina alot. Usually go down for 3 or 4 days at a time. Some great places to eat in town which is a short walk.

We finally got a slip at the AHMM just this year. As other have stated; the docks are fixed piers and the ladders are a must. I actually have found that the part of the ladder the you put your hands on never seems to be in the water. We typically have to go down about 3 rungs on the ladder and then we can step on the gunnel (if you had to go all the wat to your swimplatform this would be a different story). We are lucky to be at the end of one of the piers so we have a side and rear ladder. We use the ladder going down the side 98% of the time.

We have only been at the Marina a few months. The harbor is very calm; the people seem very nice. To date we have no real complaints. Yes, getting used to the fixed piers took some getting used to; but in the end the location and the cost clearly make up for the learning curve.

We used to go to Atlantic Highlands at least once a year but the Admiral says, "no more" She hates the fixed docks there, climbing ladders where at low tide the bottom rungs are extremely slippery is not fun.

At times, getting the dog on/off the boat requires him wearing his life vest and using a line to raise or lower him.

BTW - it's not just AH, she hates all fixed docks but for some reason she dislikes AH the most.

You guys talking about private dock or public dock (at the ramp)?. Why can you tight up at public dock?.

The bramp dock (floating) is for people who launch from the ramp. Its only for loading and unloading. We go down as a transient and stay for several days.

One thing that you can do is use a little bleach and scrub the ladders. This will clean the slime for several days...

ahh..., I use public ramp for my trailerboat once a month on boating season, didn't notice what the private/transient dock look like but the one at the ramp is floating type.

The AH ramp is a great place to kill a late afternoon as the drunks I mean fisherman come back in to load up their boats on the trailers. 4 or 5 boats at a time is a hoot! ;)

FYI - I was at AHMM just this past Thursday to fuel up. Seems there's now a large pipe out in front of all the boat docks. Large yellow floats show where it is - however, there's really no room to get around it. Best way to enter the marina is from the east side around the breakwater.

Sandy, you are on the money. They are dredging the harbor; depending on which pier they are dredging the pipe is supposed to come out of the fairway and is routed through the mooring field to the east and then towards land near the end of the break wall. We came back from fishing Weds night to find the dredge anchored directly infront of our slip. I was a little peeved as the dredge operate saw us leave with all of our rods on the deck. Oh well.
