I just received my permit application in the mail. They are no longer allowing permits to be issued in person. Also, beginning this year there is a $20 fee. Both issues are no big deal. The kicker is that you must send original documents of proof of Islip Township residency and boat ownership.

You need to send 4 original items of proof, I.e. utilities bills, town recreation card, car registration, tax bill etc. and original boat documentation and or registration papers.

I really don't feel that comfortable doing that, but I love going to Atlantique so I will comply.

The office is open until 6:30 on Thursday. I make sure to bring my renewal in person as my mailing ended up in South Dakota one year and I almost lost my slip in Bay Shore as a result.

Gerry, I hope that we can go in person this year, but the letter that I just received, specifically states:

Dear Atlantique Boater:

“In an effort to ensure permits are issued correctly and efficiently, we will be processing them by Mail Only. And the “by Mail Only was in Bold.

This could be only for the Atlantique permits, maybe for all other permits you can go in person.

I am in no rush, so I will sit back and see what happens. Maybe another Islip RO will post their results.

I too received the same Atlantique mailing. I will post it in the mail this week and as you say Radiowave, we will see what happens.
I think that mailing originals is a crock!!! But what can you do except write your congressman!

It is amazing that they put more restrictions, and proof of residency to get into the town marina, then they do to enroll a kid into to the local school district.

I came home tonight and I received my permit and all my original documents were accounted for. That was a relief! At least 90+ people sent in applications before me. Other years when I went in person mid April I had a much lower #. I guess many have faith in their system and the mail. Looks like the price went up a little, but still a major bargain for residents. :D
