Hey all,

I need to replace the shower sump that collects shower water and A/C condensate only, so I don't need a large capacity one. I am thinking about the 2 gal Attwood unit. We have a separate shower and take pretty normal (household style) showers as opposed to the wet, soap, rinse, style. I guess the capacity is somewhat a moot point if the pump can keep up (500 gph). No, I don't recall the flow rate of the shower, but I would consider it 'average'?

Anyway, I'm more interested in what you think about Attwood as a brand, as opposed to the specs for now.

Thanks,
Paul

I would stay away for the Attwood unit. Nothing but trouble for me on my last boat. Nothing worse that stinky mucky soapy gunky water overflowing into the bilge. The smell is terrible.

Go with Rule instead. Even the 500 gph pump can handle an open garden hose, but they also make an 800 gph unit.

I made my own, used a plastic/rubber sink liner and a rule 500 pump and float switch. It's been working for over ten years.

My Attwood sumps have 750 pumps, which cycle no more than 20% of the time during a full-pressure shower.

After years of using Attwood's 3-year warranty on the constantly-failing float switches, they finally discontinued the switch model. I rigged Rule switches instead, and haven't had an issue since. I won't buy anything with Attwood on the label.

Thanks all.

Working on BoatFix order now for Rule unit.

Paul I installed the "Rule" when my original sump system went bad. It has been good for 2 years so far with heavy use. I just clean the filter/trap every 60 days or so. Bill

Another vote for the Rule! Thanks Bill, that's also good to know. I placed my BoatFix order earlier this afternoon. I hope to have it here and installed for this coming Easter weekend.

Cheers-- Paul

Well, I placed the order this afternoon, and I'm close-by here in Texas, so I AM expecting it any moment now! [:-bonc01]

Rule is "probably" better but I've had no problems with Attwoods.

The advantage of the Attwood is the lid is designed to come off without tools. I hate the lid on the Rule, it's screwed down. That and it really doesn't make a good seal around it.
