Ok... Let me thank you guys & girls for your advice ahead of time!
I Checked the battery volt tester on the circuit board on my new to me 2001 Larson Cabrio 254. It showed the port battery at about 4 volts. So I said hmmm I wonder why (well I was away from it for about 2 weeks.) Anyway I put the battery selector on Bat 1 and fire it up and go out cruising originally thinking that was the port bat. I even said to my fiance theres no way that anything would start on 4 volts... lol but whatever I chalked it up to stupidity. GREAT. Anyway we dock the boat for dinner. Check the gauges again and sure enough port bat is still 4 volts. So im like hmmm it never charged. Anyway get back in and im like let me try starting on bat 2 (My batteries are both dual purpose bats - there both the same) So of course that happened to be the "port" bat. No juice.
So now im wondering. If one of my batteries is dead and I only have 1 how do I charge the other one?
I started on the "BOTH" option and sure enough by the time I got back both were charged.
Is this my only option? I was watching Ship Shape TV the other day and they said never to run on BOTH unless its a emergency. But I see no other way to get the second bat back up to 12v plus so its capable of starting.
On the same episode they mentioned something called an automatic bat charger which would move the alternator energy to whichever battery needed recharging.
Does this make sense? Any recommendations?
Any info appreciated for this new boater!
Let me at least throw in a pic of the boat and a pic of being anchored out on the ocean the other day!
