I want / need to get away from my old merc 2 stroke outboard. It is 15 yrs old and it is time.

Is there a big difference (worth the money) between the top ones ?
Honda 20Hp short shafts - 4 strokes are hundreds of dollars more. I have always been a Merc guy so I am struggling with this.

Any advise ?

Generally speaking Honda, Yamaha, tohatsu or susuki

Take a look at what s on th transom of any mission critical small boat, whether yacht tender, launches, etc.... And you will almost never see a Merc...

Tohatsus have a good reputation for small motors

I thought that Merc and Tohatsu formed "TMC" as a joint venture back around the mid 90's.
They were to have Tohatsu design all the engines below 30 hp and have them built at TMC.
I did learn that the Merc 115 4 stroke was really a Yamaha with a Merc lower gear case when I owned a Yamaha 115F and we had them side by side with the engine covers off one day.

Indeed Merc has th smaller engines bout by tohatsu but my guess is that it is to Merc specs... I ll pass

I've heard of people in the Bahamas re badging thier Yamahas with Merc stickers :)

Clever. That must be the veritable oz. of protection.

We're having decent luck with our new Suzuki DF-15A, and the DF-20A would be the same platform with slightly different electronics adjustment. Fuel injected, electric start, lighter weight than many of the other comparables. Only have a couple years of very light use in it, though.
