This really isn't an update per se, as I've never posted about this, but thought I would let you know how easy and inexpensive it is to add Bluetooth to your home or boat stereo. I had been using my phones and music devices with 3.5mm to RCA inputs for years.

With the boat especially, the cables would start to crackle and just get in the way. I have simply converted to Bluetooth receivers and they work great! They are generally rated to 30' range, but can go longer. For the boat, that it obviously plenty. You can be sitting on the dock and still control everything from your phone, etc.

I don't spend over $30 for them.

Jim always comes through with an "in yer face" answer....but in this case...I gotta agree. However, I would love to be able to listen to the ballgame on the beach while my boat sits 40-60 ft offshore-I hate dragging the portable radio to the beach. If a bluetooth extender would work with a bluetooth speaker...I'd be all in. For the record, I could get fine without my smart phone...although I don't know how I would at times.

You do realize Bluetooth allows you to do more than talk on the phone. It also allows you to play music through the stereo that is either downloaded to the phone or a music streaming app. Which I would guess is what Paul is doing.
 
Don't take it personally Paul. Jim is still pissed that he couldn't connect to the web with his IBM Selectric!

One of th best gadgets I ve bought is a Scoche bluetooth receiver / charger. It s little cube, barely bigger than an iphone charger that plugs in any outlet and has both a usb charging port and a headphone jack so you can plug any stereo or speaker. Very reliable and handy, for about $30 if I remember correctly,

Bluetooth oerformance vary greatly depending on the device you use, for instance range is much better with a full size iPad than with an iPad mini or an iPhone.

If you need longer range and have a wifi router on the boat, Apple airport express also plugs into any outlet and has a headphone jack. It has 3 times the range of BT

Pandora to my phone, (free) bluetooth to this audio system (free) lithium battery runs this thing for hours without a cord & the LED lights and system all controlled from the app on my phone.
We used it at a campfire and the LED's were 20 ft up in the trees. Unintended consequence since we just wanted a little music.

correction, it's a sealed lead acid battery.

Jim, I'm talking about beaming your music into your boat or home sound system Jim, or don't you like music either?
