New Pump-Out Boat for South Shore
Foley Hails Expanded Protection for Environment
NOVEMBER 27, 2006, FARMINGVILLE, NY – Brookhaven Town Supervisor Brian X. Foley and members of the Town Council unveiled today a new pump-out boat for the South Shore of Brookhaven Town. The boat, 23 feet in length with a 450-gallon tank, will be used to pump sewage off boats rather than have it dumped into the town’s waterways.
“I am proud to announce that we will be able to expand the use of pump-out boats to the South Shore after witnessing the success they have had on the North Shore,” said Supervisor Foley. “Civic and environmental groups have been asking for this boat for the South Shore for many years and I am glad that my administration was able to get it done for them in a relatively short period of time. “The purchase of this new boat, and the low cost to taxpayers associated with it, is due in large part to the leadership of our Commissioner of Aviation and Transportation, Jim LaCarrubba. Jim has been doing a fine job in working to improve the Aviation and Transportation Department while at the same time saving taxpayer dollars.”
The boats, which typically cost $80,500 each, will cost the town $22,750 per boat after grants received from the state and county.
“It shows great environmental leadership for the Town and Supervisor Foley to make this commitment to keeping our bays clean and to prevent pollution before it happens,” said Neal Lewis, Executive Director of Neighborhood Network.
“The South Bay Cruising Club and its initiative cosponsors applaud the Town of Brookhaven in this very important step in improving the water quality of the South Shore of Long Island,” said Joel Becker of the South Bay Cruising Club. “In its decision to have two boats in operation during the boating season of 2007, Brookhaven has exceeded our initial proposal and expectations and has shown great foresight in recognizing the requirements of the boating community and all those concerned with the environment. Brookhaven now joins Islip and almost all of the waterfront towns along the East Coast in encouraging proper disposal of marine waste.”
“We are happy with what Supervisor Foley is providing for the South Shore,” said Ron Lupski of Save the Forge River. “Even though it seems small, anything that helps protect the Forge River is a step in the right direction. It will still take a lot more, however, to restore the river.”

There is also a pumpout boat on the North Shore. See it in Port Jefferson all the time on weekends. There is also a pumpout station in Port Jeff between the launch ramp an the town docks, near the bulkhead.

By land or by sea !!!
He does a lot of members at my YC. I use him also. I take the weekly season rate, which seems like a lot of $, but he comes every Tues or Weds, and I am good to go without worrying about getting to pump station.
