The Brunswick Corporation announced Feb 16th at the Miami Boat Show that it would be buying Cabo, the West Coast builder of sportfishing boats with models from 31' to 52'.
“Cabo is an excellent addition to our Hatteras Collection of sportfishing offerings, joining the Albemarle and Hatteras brands," said Brunswick chairman and CEO Dusty McCoy. “The Cabo brand has a well-earned reputation for design, quality, performance and fishability," he said.
Founded in 1991, in 15 years the company has come from nowhere to fill in the 30' to 52' range with 11 models of express and flybridge boats. Years ago there were a number of companies fighting over this market, but some of the bigger players, such as Hatteras, Bertram and Viking shifted their production to larger, more lucrative convertibles as their clients moved up.
This evolution gave Cabo just the opportunity it needed to expand its line of high-quality boats built for serious fishermen.
“The Hatteras Collection now offers a full range of sportfishing convertibles and motoryachts from 24' to 90'," said McCoy.
Cabo has 400 employees in Adelanto, CA. Brunswick said the production facility will remain there and management will stay the same.
