I am supposed to close a deal this weekend on a 2005 Regal 2765, been working it for months...think I am getting a good price on it?? But after seeing some of the responses to Tully Lee about boating in general...I am getting cold feet!!

any last minute advice??? to close the deal or to stay away??

Go for it>>>>>>
Its only money.
let your printer work overtime if needed!!

Seriously. I purchased a 200 2660 last summer and love it.
To get it in my price range there were a few things missing off my boat that would be nice additions that if they are on the one you are looking at to add to the enjoyment.

1.The ATC control for the trim tabs. I have gotten trimming down in about 6 trips to a science as with a narrow beam and the crew moving about can cause listing.

2.Onboard A/C. I purchased a portable unit that is servicable but a real pain to store under power as well as carry up to the topdack to use.

3. Hot Water Heater I think it became standard on newer models than mine . however I find that I fill up the tank when traveling a few days ahead and the water warms up for showering porposes......

4. twin screws. I have a single 7.4 Bravo 3 that works great and I have yet to have any issues with it. However the manuverability of twins would be welcome addition.

Enjoy the Ride!!!!!

Frank...

thanks for the info...much appreciated!! Taking the boat out today for a "sea trail" will ask about the ATC you mentioned. Boat has A/C and gen...wife wanted that. Single engine though (8.1L), dealer does have a little older (and cheaper) twin. Might re-look at at??
thanks again...

I love my 2660 (which, as you likely know, became the 2765 before Regal, regrettfully discontinued it). The ATC is an add-on you must purchase aftermarket. It never was included or an option, however, it is highly desireable; mine is terrific. Also, a water heater was always standard. Never drove a single, but my twins are highly manuverable; however I wish I had gotten the EFI's.

Any specific questions you may have, before or after your purchase, I'd be delighted to answer.

JB,
I have a single with a genne and am pleased w/it. Yes, docking can be challinging at times but with practice you will get better at it. Boating may not be cheap, but try spending a weekend on your mutual fund.

All..

Thanks for your valued inputs...all very good info.
Will follow up with soon...thanks for the offer on additional info...as I will surly need it!!

Steve- the other boat I am looking at is a twin 2000 "2760"...we like it but was concerned with it being a 7 year boat, has approx 216 hrs on it.

Dan...have heard the docking challenges before..will try my luck today on my test drive...thanks for the info.

talk soon..I am off to the docks to test run the 2765..

216 hours in 7 years is "nothing". (I've only got about 160) Rule of thumb is 2000 hours total. Word of caution if you elect the twins: It's tight in there! (but do-able).

FYI, if you do get a 2660/2765; I've installed: Windlass, Auto pilot & rudder sensor, Bennett ATC, Navman GPS w/ twin fuel transducers, Electronic fuel tank sender, Aftermarket VHF, aftermarket Am/FM/CD radio w/ wired remote to helm. AP, VHF, & GPS all wired together w/ NEMA. If you choose to add any, please don't hesitate to ask questions.

Not to add to your confusion, but I have a 2005 2765 twin Volvo with a Westerbeke genset. Powers everything including a/c. Also have a trailer for it. Let me know if your interested.

Good Luck

JB

From my understanding a Genny was only offered in a single 7.4 later the 8.1 engine due to space considerations.... I do have to say I am not small 6'1" 280 and have no problem moving around the engine compartment to do the routine stuff. Also like Dan mentioned a few runs out and really watching the conditions of the wind direction and tidal movement(if you are on salt water)a single with twin props work fine.

Steve you have the right idea on the electronic sensor as gauge really fluctuates. with the access to the bow I agree with the windlass as I have that installed.Priceless at times!!!
Steve is also correct on the hours although i would take a highly maintained higher hour selection over a few hours of neglected or hard use.

Iwould love to get some coments as to where the factory A/C was mounted(or where people here) have there a/c mounted as I am getting close to pulling the trigger... and does anyone else lack the water heater!!! I saw it was standard on the model but mine doesnt have it. It does have the faucets on the sink and head shower but no HW lines to them.....

sorry for the book.
Best of luck JB
Frank

JB,
I've put 240 hours on my 8.1 w/out and they still run great. I'm 6'2, 225lbs and am able to work in the engine area.

Frank, I beleive my a/c is located on the port side of the aft cabin bed area on mine. I saw a great post on the old fourm on the install (Dog Daze, if I remember correctly).

JB,

A year ago we purchased a used 2003 2665 and it did not have a/c or a water heater, but it had a windless, which I love. This year, as a DIYS project I installed aftermarket a/c w/heat and a hot water heater, making our boat "complete" for our needs

It well worth it!

JB,

Forgot to mention...with any used boat, get an outside licensed marine survey done! Worth every penny!

Dan
Thanks for the A/C information. I was thinking that would be a good out of the way place for it.
when you look at the harness for a windless I would say that is more important to have on a used boat than A/C as snaking that through a boat must be tough.
JB lots of luck and dont be afraid to ask questions...
Frank

Hi Guys,

We just got back after a few extra days at the boat.. and yes, we really run the tail off that AC unit.. we wouldn't have been able to stay there if we didn't have it.

I can repost the pictures later this week, but need to do it from home.. I can't access the photobucket website here at the office.

jmbass135, definately get a survey.. it's well worth the $$$ and your bank/insurance folks will welcome it as well.

"Boating may not be cheap, but try spending a weekend on your mutual fund."

That's an excellent quote!

Thanks!

Hi Frank and Lisa,

As Snazzy mentioned above, I do have a contact in FLA who may still have a few Marine Air, cool only units.. We choose this option with our 1989 Regal 280 Commodore since it's an older boat.. as we felt the deal was too good to pass up. We installed a 12K Marine Air.... total cost with S&H and my misc items was approx $1K.

The cost was a little bit more than purchasing one of the drop through the hatch units... but it will cool it down in a hurry... we might break out the cube heater maybe only once/twice a season... maybe.. It was by far, the best investment we made to our boat since we've owned it. We use it twice as much as we did previously, and it's much more enjoyable now.

Let me know if you are interested... I'll see if I can dig out his contact info.

Here's the pictures I've posted in the past on our AC/install. I mounted the unit in the aft cabin, which is the same location as it would have been from the factory. I did the complete install myself with exception of the thru hull. I had that done over the winter, and actually did the remainder of the install once the boat was back in the water.

Thanks for posting the pictures.
I do have an interest in the item. 12,000 btus is alittle over kill but I can envision running a duct up to the cockpit to remove some humidity from that area in the evenings when we have the canvas up.
Do you happen to have the dimentions as I am going out this weekend and can measure the cabinet on the 2660 to see if it fits.
Thank You
Frank

Hi Frank,

I was looking into a 12K unit for someone we met earlier this week. I've touched base with the guy we got ours from and he mentioned late today, that he has located one in a warehouse at a discounted rate for them if they are interested.

He may have smaller units, depending on what size you're looking for. If we can exchange contact information, I can put you in touch with him to see if he can help you with this.

As for measurements, I put this in back in 2003, so I'll need to dig that information up. Ours is a standard Marine Air, 12K. Cool only, but I believe the footprint is the same on all the 12-16K units. If you visit the Marine Air website, they would also have this information online.

I don't have an anchor yet, so we can't use the PM feature here, but my email is shadow7118... and I'm on AOL - if you can figure out the rest.

Regards,

Frank,

Joel and Carine (AKA Nouchka) had some pictures of a nice A/C install on a 2004 Regal 2465... might see if we can get Joel to repost some of his pictures as well.

I believe that Cliff and Jean (AKA check737) may have also installed A/C on SUN E DAYS.
Also,
Cliff & Maria (AKA lambeck4) installed a 6500 BTU unit on their 2003 2665 Commodore "Great Escape" over the winter. According to what I recall, they made their deal with Pflieger Marine Service in Sandusky, OH

Get in touch with me as noted above and I'll get you that contact info.

Regards,
