Hello everyone.

Just curious to see if anyone has Carver with cabin heat or has installed a cabin heater.

I've been looking at some of the diesel heaters (like Wabasto, Espar, Wallas, etc). Forced air heaters seem like a good option and do the coolant heaters.

But the big question is where to mount the boiler unit / burner? Since I'm powered with Gasoline engines, I need to have a small tank for the Kerosene...so where the heck do I mount that? If I had some space in the engine room, it might be an option, but its pretty darn tight in there.

Just curious to see what others have done, or perhaps if you purchased a boat that the PO installed a heater on it.

I'd like to get some use in the winter and not fire up the Genset to power an electric heater.

Thanks,

-Jeb

I have an older 3007 aft cabin with a Dickinson propane heater mounted on the aft bulkhead, port side in the salon. The heater is plumbed to a propane tank mounted in a locker on the aft deck. It's old school, but it works.

Thanks for the reply. You wouldn't happen to have a picture or two to share?

Did you have an exhaust port/chimney you needed to install with this?

Its so tight on space on the Santego, that I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do with a tank (either a kerosene/diesel or even propane tank). There's not really any space for a propane tank locker given any space in the cockpit would impact engine room access/ door access.

I happen to have a 3396, so it's a somewhat different layout. I didn't bother with a complicated heating arrangement, opting instead for a vornado electric heater in the cabin. That's all we need to heat the whole boat,as long as we keep the stateroom door open. If we need to close the door I have another heater for there. I also have a propane 'buddy' heater that we use on the cockpit. If I have all the canvas closed and the propane heater going on the cockpit, cabin doors open and the vornado going, the whole boat is nice and toasty.

manticore999,

I take it with the electric heat you're in the marina?

When we're in a marina, we have a small ceramic heater that works well. The challenge I have is when we're on the hook with no shore power. We have a Genset, so I can run the heater, but I have to deal with the noise of the generator running. I'd like to have something during the winter up north here to run through the night to keep us warm without having the run the generator for the heater.

I've looked at the Wallas, Espar and Wabasto. They all have their advantages/disadvantages. But main issue I'm having trouble with is how to deal with the fuel tank for these. I just don't have the room for it...

I can put it under the sette; but then I have a fuel tank now in the cabin area...and I don't think that is really ideal or safe.
