Cape cod bay

Planning an August trip for vacation. we want to spend some time on cape cod. I've got a few days on a mooring at ptown, renting a car or jeep but looking for another stop on the bay to fill in a day or two. Maybe Plymouth? We're talking a 7 to10 day trip, current itenerary is haddam to Newport for one night, a couple nights somewhere in between, a few at ptown, one at cuttyhunk then home....suggestions?

Plymouth is a good stop even without the Mayflower. Lots of good restaurants, fancy and casual, as well as historic sightseeing. Town is one block up from the waterfront. Not much else between P'Town and Plymouth unless you just want to chill and swim.

[Prospective]

Just got back from a cruise up that way. Plymouth was excellent. If you like a slip, the brewers yard there has very nice docks right next to "the rock". If mooring, you can reserve thru the Plymouth Yacht Club who also provides a quick launch. Highly recommend Plymouth. Lots of shops and restaurants. Scituate is another harbor north of Plymouth that as a nice town and is sheltered. Worth a night.
