Trying to see if I could put a trip together within the next few weeks with some buddies of mine. we've never been Tuna fishing b ut always wanted to. Can anyone reccomend a good captain to call to look into charter availibility.

Probably a few guys here who will take you out if you split the costs.
Or i know a guy in my marina that goes out all the time.

We wouldn;t be opposed to that, before laying out a few k for a charter woth a captain we've never fished with a personal reccomendation is always nice.

Call Capt Chuck Mallinson of the Joy Sea out of Star Island in Montauk: 631-668-5829.

Great fisherman. We always come home happy.

A friend of mine does charters on his 45' Viking, out of Oaklands marina in Shinnecock. I have gone out with him quite a few times and he always puts us on fish. It is a beautiful boat too. If you are interested, let me know when and i'll call him to see if he is available.

Captain Michael Potts of the Blue Fin IV out of Montauk. He knows if the fish are out there and won't take your money if they're not. If they're out there you'll catch him. He's listed. Heading out with him next weekend.

Spoke to 2 captains out of montuak, one is ready to take my money, the other told me since the hurricane the tuna has been non existant. has anyone had some pweroanl experience the past few weekes?

Not many boats have been getting out since the storm, weather hasn't been great offshore and reports of lots of debris in the water early on. There have been good reports to the west the last few days from the couple of reports I've seen. That's where the warmer water is on the recent satellite pictures. Right now I think you're actually better off getting a charter out of NJ than Montauk. Canyon Runner charters has had some good reports. I've been trying to get out myself all month but the weather hasn't cooperated. I have guys ready to go next weekend and have my fingers crossed that we finally get a decent weather window for an overnight trip.
