I am thinking about buying a Carver 43 SS with IPS 500. Anybody has any insight on how it would compare to my Silveton 35C? Maybe someone switch from Carver to Silverton or vice-versa?

I have read stories about Carver's relatively flat haul and possible rough rides in choppy water. Is the shape of the their hauls very different from Silverton? I would use it in So California, mostly for trips to Catalina (25 miles offshore).

I am also surprise of how much heavier than the 35C it is, for only 5 feet longer? It is much taller. I can only assume that it is more top heavy. Can this tend to make the boat rock more on the hook?

Is this a popular, high production boat or are they relatively rare?

Any observations on the IPS? Are they a maintenance nightmare?

Any comments would be appreciated.

I would wonder if the IPS drives mean that more draft is required then your Silverton.

The IPS drives typically draw about 2" more water than a standard inboard setup. The Carver is a heavy boat and does have a relativley shallow deadrise, but I believe aboout the same as a Silverton. The 42/43SS are a good riding boat and fairly fast with the IPS500s in them. A little on the low production as they came out about when the market started to dive.
