Carver Status... UPDATE 1/15/10 Genmar Bankruptcy

So, is Carver finished??? Did they come out with a 2010 product line???

They are not finished...we are still a dealer, but I don't think they've made any 2010 product yet...definately no new models for 2010...everything will be carryovers. The courts are dictating what they can and cannot do because of Genmar's bancrupcy filing. I'm sure it's affecting all Genmar brands.

Jacobs stepped down yesterday, but I drought if it will be for long according to reports.http://news.google.com/news/SEARCH=STANDARDwww.bassfan.comnews_article.

Kenny! Of all the places to find you.

Genmar is a mess. My guess is as good as anyone's, but with all of the quality low priced used boats in the marketplace right now, many of the big names will disappear. The CEO of Genmar (Irwin) is a crook. Look at his history and you will see that busy defunct companies was his calling card....thats how he would up with Genmar in the first place. Carver most likely will make it...somehow and someway because its a tried and true brand name. However, if they don't get back to what made them Carver...which is that 25' to 35' family cruiser they are sunk. Carver cannot and should not play in the Hatteras category. To Kenny's point above, get back to competitng with brands like Sea Ray and Silverton.

Hey Kenny, see you at the Boat Show. Will you guys still have a booth, or are you guys pulling out? And if I don;t see ya at the show, hopefully we will cath up with you at Kelley or PIB. Of course that would require you to actually take the boat out of the dock!!

In the current Carver web site there is no listing for a dealer near Cedar Point, OH. The site refers me to Carver's home in Pulaski, WI. Is this something new? Am I missing something?

I work for the Carver dealer in that area, and yes...we are still a dealer. The bancrupcy courts will not let Carver post dealers that have no stock on hand (which we don't). Until we get boats, or Carver is out of bancrupcy, you won't see our name referenced on their site. This is true for any dealer without product of any Genmar brand

Hey Bart and Shannon!!!!

Yes we will be at the show, although in a vastly smaller presence (just 2 boats) and I'm not sure I'll be there except to set it up. And...I took the boat oout WAAAYYY more this year (now that Rick and Brandon were gone) and even went to PIB several times for overnights and stayed at The Crews Nest.

RS47 thanks for the very informative response!

Kenny, thats amazing that the bankruptcy court wont let Carver show you as dealers. Talk about a self-defeating concept. Wouldnt it be better to let you advertise and help Carver get themselves OUT of bankruptcy??? Being a Chamber of Commerce executive myself, thats kinda how my mind works, but I'm not a bureaucrat so what do I know...

Our government sucks sometimes... No, a LOT of the time...

Their thoughts, Pete, are that they want the boats in stock sold so they are "emphasizing" those dealers that have product. That's not to say you can't come here and get a Carver from me :-)

If I had the money, to quote our former Republican Vice Presidential nominee, "you betcha" :) !!!

I heard (read as rumor) that Genmar had sold Four Winns, Larson, Wellcraft, and some others, but still own Carver, Marquis, and Windsorcraft...and possibly Hydrasports and Ranger.

Just fouond out....The above Rumor is in fact RUMOR and NOT TRUE. I figured this as the source is not too reliable.

looks like Carver got the worst of it, they got Jacobs. Most of Genmar was auctioned to a capital investment firm from Beverly Hills but Jacobs bought Carver and Marquis

Actually, I think that may be best...he can now focus all of his time on the two companies, rahter than many...Remember.Carver is the company he started Genmar with. Now he just needs to refocus Carver on making affordable quality family cruisers like they made in the 1980's and early 1990's.

Capital investment firms rarely have the interests of the companies they buy in mind when doing so...Look what happened to Chrysler under Cerberus!

I don't think an U.S. manufacturer can produce "affordable quality family cruisers" right now or in the not so foreseeable future. If it were my money I would bet on the upscale-the high end. Of course with production elsewhwere. Picture a place totally corrupt --- ah, never mind. Offshore may not be a requirement. Relocation to Illinois might work!

Kenny,
I respectfully disagree with you. This piece of Shoit Jacobs and corp, owe over $100 million dollars to about 4,000 unsecured creditors and this mother f$cker get to purchase Carver and Marquis for only $6.05 million!! Oh yes and I forgot he is in talks with Platinum Equity to purchase back some boat lines.

Quote from news.

From reports we are getting from Minneapolis it looks as if Platinum Equity will take over Four Winns, Ranger, Triumph, Seaswirl, Champion, Stratos, FinCraft, Larson, Wellcraft and Glastron.

In separate boating industry trade news accounts Jacobs is quoted as saying that he would like to buy certain brands from Platinum Equity. The brands mentioned include Larson, FinCraft, Seaswirl and Triumph.

There appears to be a good working relationship between Jacobs and Platinum Equity management.

Sorry but this ticks me off. This guy should not be allowed to purchase the company back.
