It appears that Carver is now out from under the Genmar bankruptcy. From the news page of Carver's web site:

"Carver Yacht was purchased by a new ownership group in January 2011," stated Robert VanGrunsven, President. "Today Carver is an independent, stand-alone organization which provides us with a tremendous strategic advantage in today's marketplace."

Pacific Yachting magazine reports in it's Feb-2011 issue:

"Carver was once part of the mighty Genmar family, but was recently sold off to former Genmar CEO Irwin Jacobs and partners, and is now being operated as an independent entity."

Looks like there's a new 44 Sojourn model for 2011 too. Not much of a looker, IMO, but it's good to see Carver reemerging.

It happened last year, and this year they thought it a good idea to let their longest standing and largest volume dealers go to give the outlets to someone else. Don't get me wrong, I still love Carvers...just a little upset with Carver Corp as I work for the dealer that represented Carver for 47 + years.

I guess I was wrong in my assumption that the buyers bought ONLY the assets of the former builder firm; as Bombardier BRP did when they bought the remaining assets when OMC failed and was rolled up. There is a big difference. Did the buyers buy the operating firm and take it out of bankruptcy or was it rolled up and they just bought the remaining assets??

RamSport47 -- Kenny, I was suprised that Jim Thorpe at Spring Brook Marina in Seneca, IL did not become one of the new or continuing dealers. I'm not worried about SB they took on Viking, Princess and Cruisers. I spoke with Mr Thorpe and I believe I am putting it mildly when I say the negotiations with the new Carver did not go well. Much to my surprise Skipper Bud's is the new dealer in the Chicago/Milwaukee area.

They are the new dealer here in Ohio also. And, they were the other dealership I was referring to (largest volume). I think there was more to it than we were told, but I can't confirm that. At this point, all I ccan say is "Carver wanted my company to buy boats, and we wouldn't/ couldn't at the time, so they gave it to someone who would. Funny thing though, they did not have any Carvers or Marquis at the recent Cleveland boat show...in fact did not even advertise the fact that they now sold Carver, but they did list Marquis.

Milwaukee boat show had 2 Marquis there. One 50 and one 44. The 50 was marked at $1.2 million... Can't say I noticed anything Carver specific, but there were pictures of Carvers on their boards for sale.
