Now one woman has died - odd that she went home and later went to hospital where she then dies. Only 41

That's a shame but I guess the good new is 49 POB didn't die, considering the lack of readily available PFDs.
I noticed the article says "frigid waters". Cold for them for sure but water temps in that area apparently average ~~60*F in Jan..

FWIW, on NY's day the local polar cube club ( not I! ) went for a brief full-submersion Nantucket Sound ""swim"" in something less than 40*F water temp. in ~ 6*F ambient air temp and ~~ -22* wind chill in regular bathing suits. Now that's shrinkage, ...-potentially permanent?

Surprising incident considering it was an inspected vessel and as such it had to have some fire protection in the ER I hope we had about the result of the investigation

Machinery space fire suppression systems are only effective if the engines are shut down and the machinery space air intakes and air exhausts are closed and dogged tight. It has been my experience that the Casino "Cruise to Nowhere" organizations are notoriously very poor at Marine Operations.

Saw the video. Ugly...It burned quick. They are fortunate that the captain was able to get close to shore where the water was only 3' or so at the bow and people could easily walk to shore.
