Change a refill lube in fall?

Hey, i always drained the lube in my ob evry winter and did not refill. With our other boat people suggest refilling the outdrive in the fall and keeping it full all winter. which is correct? lube won't freeze???

Lube doesn't freeze. Drain and refill in the fall.

Don't you think that it's better for the metal gears and parts to sit in protective oil all winter?
