We went there last year. It was a very nice place, with a pool. There was a restaurant next door that was good. I'm pretty sure there was also a good bait & tackle shop there. If possible, don't gas up till you get to Atlantic Highlands on your way over. Their gas was about $1 less than Long Island prices last year.
The Shrewsbury River has 2 bridges, the Sandy Hook Bridge and the Sea Bright Bridge. The first heading south is The Sandy Hook Br. No problem there, clearance is great. The Sea Bright Bridge has greater than 18' vertical clearance in low tide but less than 18' in High tide. Sea Bright operates on VHF 13 and opens every half hour on the half hour during the season. The bridge operator will also tell you the vertical clearance if you ask. The current runs pretty good under and just south of the bridge so be careful.
Rob,
The Channel Club is very nice. There is a nice resteraunt right in the marina "Sally T's", they have a pool, the beach is within walking distance (1/4 mile). You can walk into town, (about a mile) but there isn't too much more than convenience type stores there. There are a couple cab companies locally if you need to get to the grocery stores. The docks are fixed, there is a full service repair facility there, as well as a gas, diesel and pump out dock.
