chb trawler problems

I think CHB;s are made in China. I would look to see if it has steel tanks. I have heard this has been an issue as they get older. There could be as many as 4 diesel tanks in that boat. Also check the wiring depending on the boats age, there was a period of time many 1970 and 80's trawlers built in Asia had substandard wiring, Some of these vintage trawlers also had leaking windows that cause interior rot. I'm sure Al will stop in. I have been looking at Trawlers that size and doing some research.

Excellent place to explore this with people experienced with these boats are the Trawers and Trawlering e-mail list forum and the MTOA: Marine Trawler Owners Association (FKA Marine Trader Owners Association, changed to include all Asian "trawlers" since MTs were made by most of the different yards anyway..). An enormous wealth of information available both places.

Also what George said. I know a number of people in MTOA. Excellent organization and you don't have to have a trawler to belong. I'm thinking of joining myself and I have a sailboat.

what George said. Tons of resources out there and a lot of knowledge. Definitely some issues to watch for but it's a boat by boat basis.
