My aft curtain is made from stamoid. This past winter it it got covered with a green film that doesn't want to come off. It's not mold or mildew, it almost looks like someone buffed a green hull next to it and the green residue got on the drop curtain.

I dropped it off to get it cleaned by Awning Cleaning Industries in New Haven, but I'm not very hopeful. Anyone have any ideas?

If it's mold you have to kill the bacteria 1st. I'm thinking a bleach and water solution. However I would be careful pick a small spot and try it 1st. Bleach could destroy the Stamoid.

I'm 98% sure it's not mold. I cleaned it with Marykate On/Off, which is fairly nasty stuff and work on just about anything I've thrown at it. It did almost nothing.

The cover is in pretty good shape and the clear has very little scratches, so I'd rather not remake it just because it's dirty looking.

We'll see how the pros do and then decide what our next step is

Dan, don't laugh but I've used Collenite Fiberglass Cleaner on my vinyl coming pads & it does a great job. Also works on fiberglass; go figure!

Spoke to the cleaner and they will have them done in time for me to pick up and reinstall before our 4th trip, I'm hoping for a significant difference from when I dropped them off.

As an afterthough, what about using a magic erasure? I think they contain a little solvent.

Call these guys in Florida - they distribute stamoid nationwide ... they should be able to find out for you. Ferrari Textile (954) 942-3600 " I know a guy" - ask for Bob or Marie

Spray-nine works on a lot of things, may be worth a look.

Be very careful using bleach. It will rot the threads if they are not the durable material type. That and some clear panels like stratoglas will distort.
