I'm getting ready to purchase a 2000 Chapparal with a 3.0 Mercruiser. I checked the oil for water (good no water)and the motor runs strong, but I did notice on the left side of the motor (from inside facing the back of the boat) something that looked like a cream colored substance on the block of the motor.
I'm guessing it may have been a liquid gasket or sealer that was applied too heavy and dripped down the motor. I touched it and it rubbed off rather easily. It was kind of oily but it was not oil if this makes any sense. It didn't appear to be leaking, but before I drop the money on this boat I want to do what I can to make sure I don't get burnt. Any idea what this could be? The guy I'm buying the boat from says it's been there since he owned the boat (two years +).
Thanks again guys... you're a big help!
