I`m wondering if anyone else has noticed this...
you`re coming north on the river at night approaching the south end of Brockway island (the one across from Hamburg Cove), as you leave the green light on the tower on your port side, the next light you see is the red that is north of the island but you are looking at it in a strait line on the west side of the nisland, the channel is on the east side by the cove entrance. On a murky night , I think it leads you into the shallow water between the geen tower and the island. This happened to me back in the day, I was crawling along and figured it out without any issue. The admiral and I were coming up the river this week after a dinner run, it was very dark and she and I were playing "which way now". We got past the green and she pointed to the red and said "that way". I said nope. Long story short, it seems there should be a nav bouy some where in that Hamburg Cove curve

I know the spot well. Heading straight to the next light will get you in trouble here and a couple of other places on the river Middletown at night. What a boater is supposed to do in night running is turn to a heading upon reaching a aid per the chart and navigate to the next aid - not just head to the next light. It is an important distinction that sometimes matters. In this case from the previous buoy it's hold course 045 past the tower until the light is visible. Going up the west side of Brockway Island requires deviating from course not to mention turning at the tower. Usually heading from light to light will get you there but not always. There is a place on the river where you hold course until you intercept a range rather than head to the light. Rule is Know the heading don't just head.
