Tomorrow, 6-18 will be my first day trip out into the great south bay from my new slip in West Sayville. Someone suggested Davis Park or the Marina west of it, I can't think of the name. Any suggestions for a new local ?
We will anchor inside the bay and take the dink to explore etc...
It will be me and the new "firstmate", no kids. Any good places to be sure and visit ?

A lot of us here go to the marina east of Davis Park, which is Watch Hill. If you're anchoring out though better off sticking closer to Davis Park and you can explore from there. Actually for anchoring out Sailor's Haven is a good choice, a little further west. On a nice weekend you'll see a bunch of boats anchored in the bay around it and you can dinghy in and go to the beach or walk the nature paths from there. Both Watch Hill and Sailor's Haven are part of the Fire Island National seashore and have no towns near the marinas. They are generally pretty quiet and laid back. Davis Park has a number of houses, there's a bar/restaurant and it tends to be more busy.

John,

A bit more busy? That's a real "nice" way to put it ;)
