Dinghy reg numbers

The dinghy sits on a trailer in my garage when not in use. I plan on taking the registration numbers off everytime I am done using the dinghy, this way I have the numbers at all times.

Never know with state or local guys. In some areas, they've been known to be VERY black and white. I've seen people get written for not having the required spacing between the prefix/numbers/suffix in their reg numbers, and for having their reg in 'cool' fonts instead of block.

Utterly ridiculous, IMHO, but there are, regrettably, occasional officers that will write stupid stuff like that. More often than not they're younger and more inexperienced.

When I had my little inflatable (that I regret selling. All the boats I've owned, from kayaks to a 27' cabin cruiser, that little inflatable was my favorite, kid you not) I just used a magic marker and touched it up now and then. If you want something more permanent, you can use Hypalon to make your numbers and permanently attach them. Most people just use a marker or paint pen, or the plastic boards hung from the grab lines.
 
Here is the solution that I came up with...
I put the numbers on the white plastic boards from West Marine and then used industrial Velcro to attach them to the PVC dinghy. I can remove them when not using the dink and it looks pretty good. Let's see how long it lasts....
 
For the "devil's advocate" stance (that being the LEO in the bad mood), I know here in MD that numbers are to be "permanently attached" to the vessel. I'm just of the thought of not giving an excuse to be stopped. We have those ugly orange life vests hanging over the back of each of our helm chairs. Why? So they can easily be seen!
 
Kurt, understood. That look permenat unless really studied and in checking with our state police water patrol, should be fine.
 
I need to get back to VT to ski Mad River Glen again. The last time I was there the single diesel chair was still running (I hear it's still a single but the diesel is gone).
