Do you have to have matching calrion radio remotes

would like to add a new radio remote control on the back of the boat for my clarion radio. Do the remotes have to match? The remote I have is not longer available.

Are there adaptors to convert the DIN plugs for the older remotes in order to work with a newish head unit? My buddy took a Clarion remote out of his late 90s 500 sundancer, and I'd like to use it on my 2004 320DA. Unfortunately, while they are both DIN plugs, the newer head unit has more pins and the pinouts are aligned differently.

Its actually a very nice remote, the kind that has a wireless remote dock and an IR sensor. They don't have anything like it for the current models. I want to put it back around the cockpit seating. Also, it uses a little credit card remote, which I can place in waterproof bag and attach a floatie so we can have in-water control of the tunes.

Keep in mind that those things usually need direct, unobstructed line-of-sight to the receiver.
