My horn rests in the opening facing in the up position(Sea Ray wisdom?), with only a thin fabric(which is crumbling)covering, I'm loosing my horn because its being drowned with rain water. I'm thinking of drilling a hole in it at the lowest part of the bend for the water to escape... How does that sound? This is horn #2.

another "what were they thinking" deal !!! what kind of boat do you ahve ? if you have a radar arch, that where the horns should go... get some real horns too, which can be heard from more than 25' away.

he he he, no radar arch, I have a 245 Weekender, no ther place for it, what do you think? drill the hole?

Where is the water going to go if you drill the hole? It would not a good idea to just let it drain inside the boat.

I hate the wimpy horn Sea Ray uses. It sounds like it belongs on a kids' tub toy, not a real boat. But I also neither have a radar/fish arch, not want to mount a proper set of horns on the deck. So I just leave it alone and complain about the wussy horn.

where is the water going to go ? where is it? is it at the bow, on the side under a plastic cover? if your'e talking about drilling the horn for the water to drain in the cavity which i assume is drained obverboard, then it's fine. but i woudn't drilled the cavity for water to get inside, even small amounts.

why don't you install a pair of decent SS trumpet horns on the cabin top in front of the windshield,. off center not to interfere with the thru windshield opening ? that's were the horns where on my old archless bayliner... it worked.

horns are a required safey items that must be heard.

That plastic cover thingy is kind of bizarre. Place something solid under the vented plastic and relocate/replace the horn.

I have a 24' Sundancer and I had to replace to horn... Soon enough you will blow the fuse.. Overall bad design..
I still loose some sound with rain or when I catch a wave..

Let me know how the surgery goes with the drill

I have the wimpy horn problem also. How much skill is required to mount the trumpet horns on a radar arch? I have a 2000 340 Sundancer.

surprised that boat with arches dont' have the horns up there already... why are builders so cheap !

little skill required, the only problem / time consuming thing will be to run the wire from the helm to the arch and up in the arch. hopefully there is a chase and easy access but if they were so cheap to use crappy little horn on a 34 footer... you never know ! once the wires are in (check the size, you proably need 10 or 12 Ga wire) just drill a the holes, bolt and connect.

stay away from the cheap AFI, get SS Ongaros, much better quality.

Thanks, you answered the two questions I should have included earlier: 1) air/electric 2) good brands. Now I can act like a big boat and give a blast when I back 'er out.

Some mount them on the forward deck.

I drilled a hole, got the water out and it sounds good, we shall see how long that lasts!

I think the hole I drilled is working! All of this rain, and still working. At least the water will empty in to the anchor locker. Problem solved...

nothing worse than a big boat with a small (sounding ) horn. I replaced mine with 2 tractor trailer horns

I don't know what you need a horn for anyways other than tooting it for the gas attendant, I can't hear them while underway...

If you can't hear them underway, you need to get a louder set of horns.

I had a new horn installed and my still sounds wimpy. Sorta sounds like a goose with a a sore throat tying to yodle.

The horn is a Fiamm, available at Advance Auto, unfortunately does not come with the membrane.
