I have a Lowrance LXC-15MT and a West Marine VHF500 (ok, shoot me Boatfix, but I was in a hurry to get it for this weekend).
Hooked it up in place of the old Raymarine 210, used the existing antenna, worked fine. Had a meter and checked out the antenna, all OK (though it read only about 21 watts out).
Hooked up to the GPS on the Com2 for Lowrance, and it worked first try.
EXCEPT... as soon as the GPS/Sounder is turned on, the static comes up very greatly. The squelch cuts out at about a quarter turn with teh GPS off, about 3/4 with it on, so it is a big difference. Also a big difference in sound quality.
Both units are hooked to the same fusebox behind the helm (on a 2001 Sea Ray 26' Sundancer). All testing was done on the lift with the engine off and only battery power.
It does not matter if the MNEA output is on or off, it only matters if it is connected and the Lowrance on. With it connected and Lowrance off, no problem. Interestingly the static only starts about 5 seconds after the Lowrance is powered on.
Any ideas? Is there some kind of RF filter I might want between them?
Unfortunately with (just) two devices involved, it is hard to know which is at fault. Or if my wiring somehow is.
