Looking to visit Wildwood for a night or two and have some questions . I was wondering if Hereford Inlet is navigable or should I plan on going all the way to Cape May Inlet. I would like to stay close to 20 th street in N. Wildwood and close to an inlet. Any suggestions ? How long approx. should it take running outside once I get to Great Egg Inlet ? I will be running a older 34 Lhurs . Any tips would be great . Thanks . Anthony

I would not advise entering the hereford inlet from the ocean; unless there is a local boat that you can follow. The inlet is certainly useable, but a chart won't do you any good, and there aren't even any buoys to follow. You can come in at Townsends, which is a good inlet, and make your way inside from Avalon down to N. Wildwood, or head down to Cape May, which is even better. But don't plan a trip around Hereford. That being said, if you show up a mile off shore on the middle of a busy Saturday, pretty good chance you will be able to follow someone in.

There are some small marinas in North Wildwood, I can't remember the names of any though.

If I remember correcly, Great Egg to Townsends is about 15 miles; another 15 or so to Cape May.

Sitting at Schooner Isle Marina as I type this and I like what I see so far.

Another comment at the risk of getting slammed but some of the worse and/or rudest boaters in the world frequent the Shrewsbury River and ICW between Cap May and Wildwood. Are the NAV rules suspended on those bodies of water???? Unbelievable!!!!

Quite frankly I'm surprised more people don't get killed on the water than unfortunately do when I see the antics that go on in some places.

I doubt you'll get slammed for that comment. There are some real fools in the ICW down there, especially fourth of July weekend. Be careful on your way through the canal, if you take thta route; I can't tell you how many times I've been waiting to pass through the narrow abandoned railroad bridge, only to have some jackass in a 19 foot Sea Ray dart in front of me at the last second.

We came into Schooner Island Marina with rommer yesterday, through the Cape May Inlet. Easy ride north from there to the marina, which is very clean & friendly. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for advice ! With what I have to go on , I'll be opting to take the Cape May Inlet and run north. As far as people not following the rules , had a bad experience 8 yrs. ago down there running a 22' sunbird . Stayed away untill now , people just don't get that boats can't just STOP . On the other hand I can't let a few bad apples ruin it for everyone else . I have heard so many good things about Schooner Isle that I have to give it a try . Rommer do they have free wi-fi ? Thks Hogan and alk . Even thou its not a far trip still love planning it out all the same .

I carry my own wireless Inet connection so I really don't know if there is free wifi. I'll check later after the pain meds wear off a little.

As for Schooner Island Marina overall, what a fantastic place. Clean, well run, and very friendly staff. A nice little dog park area, reasonable fuel prices, marine store and pool. The manager Tony, just can't do enough to make you feel welcome. I needed a part that broke and he graciously volunteered to drive me down to a place he knew in Cape May that had the parts I needed. Being I just got back from the ER and am on crutches he had a golf cart meet me at his truck when we returned and drove me to my slip. When I tried to slip him a few dollars for his time/fuel and kindness he refused telling me to give it to his people instead.

It's easy to see why the staff is so friendly and helpful.

We will be back for sure.

When we were there last year, they had several wireless access points set up and the office will give you the password on request.

Ditto on the dock staff. Very friendly boat owners as well.

Rommer, hope you are okay. Not great to be in pain on your vacation.

He's better now, but we had a scare this morning. There is internet access through the marina, but the connection is spotty.

Staff here is fantastic!

Rommer what happened? Hope it's not serious.

Feeling much better but I believe a lot of that is drug induced happiness. Gotta love the injectable pain meds!

Started getting ankle pain last night which progressively got worse over night and kept me up all last night. Could not walk on it this morning and required an ambulance ride to the local hospital ER. Several pain injections later as well as multiple blood tests and xrays they said they didn't know what was wrong with me. Gave me a script for some percocets and steroids then sent me back to the marina with instructions to take it easy and see my own doctors as soon as possible.

Not 100% sure how you do that when you are on a boat almost 200 miles from home!

But we will survive!!!!

(I was much better off before I decided to try and get healthy by losing weight. Over 90 pounds now but I'm just saying....)
