I have a Crown Electric Head (not sure which model) and I would like to add an Electro Scan. The toilet uses fresh water and currently empties to holding tank which I pump out about once per month. Boat is used on freshwater river.

What items must I buy? Do I need the salt tank, or can a salt solution be poured into the toilet for each flush (water intake to toilet does not work right now and there might not be room for a salt unit as space is tight)? Do I need to buy any controls or guages which are not included in the basic purchase? If this unit flushes directly overboard do you use the macerator or only the toilet flush?

Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If the toilet flushes with pure fresh water, you would beed to add approximately 3 shot glasses (3 oz.) of granular table salt to the toilet bowl with each flush - but it will work that way.

All you need is a flushing toilet that has a pump built into it on the discharge side. You won't need any additional pumps. It will discharge driectly back into the water.

Please note that not all Crown Heads are compatible with an Electro-scan or its predecessor, the Lectra/San. Deep Draft models and centrifugal discharge models are compatible; the older Standard model is not compatible.

How to tell? Look on the motor data label or brass plate. If it is a 12 volt unit and the amperage rating is either 50 amps or 36 amps, it is compatible. If the amperage rating is 30 amps, it is not compatible.

Vic,

Thanks for the quick response. It does use fresh water from the holding tank (when working); from a gallon jug now. Unit is 12 volt, I will check the amps next trip to the boat.
