So, I can't be the only 4207 owner that has wanted to install dual gas shocks on my engine room access/stairs.
I thought this might be a great winter project but I started to research force necessary to counter weight, stroke, mounting location based on stroke......but wait maybe someone has already done the brain work.
So who out there has already installed them?

I wish my Carver was of an age where gas shocks were a nice option and not a necesiity. It gets to be a real pain lifting the hatches and moving the entire hatch over to another position weekly in order the access the engin room-oh to be rich and be able to afford a mechanic to work on my myriad of projects need to keep a 25+ year boat running well.

I has a Carver 440 that I think was similar.
I just increased the strength of the shock. I looked into adding electric lift but the angle of lift would have to be changed significantly and one I got the stronger shock I forgot about it. Still like the idea of a lift though.

PDECAT,
Do you have any part information on your updated stronger shock....pat number, shock length, working range and do you have two shocks?
I looked into the electric lift as well, way, way coooool! But pricey too.

don't have the number any longer. get the number from your current shock them look at the maker specs on the web and pick something stronger.

If I recall correctly the McMaster Carr catalogue on line has lots of info on how to pick size and power.

the measurement is in the part number as is the power. I cant get to the boat. I just replced one with a stronger power because I would have had to make new brackets. It is not hard guys.

Thanks..

Did you use 2 gas struts or 1? I added this to a deck hatch on our day boat.
