Engine covers...what a PITA

On my Santego 31 my entire rear deck area is engine covers. 1 large and 2 small. What do you guys do with these things while you're 'under the hood'?

I've got the same problem with our 33' Cruisers. The engine hatch is hinged with a second, smaller hatch next to it. However, to do any work in the engine bay, the entire cockpit floor has to be lifted and removed. That requires removing the two hatches, unscrewing and removing the transom seat back, unscrewing and removing the transom seat cushion, unhooking and removing the two cushin brackets, laying a tarp over the transom to prevent scratches, and then climbing down into the engine bay and lifting the entire floor and sliding it onto the transom, balancing it there. The floor is approximately 6' x 8'. That's what I have to do right know to tune-up one of the engines. It's difficult enough with the boat on land, as it is right now. I hope I never have to do any work while on the water. I might lose the floor overboard. These boats are not designed for service, just for installation! I don't have a solution to the problem other than prayer. Hy

I think there ought to be a law: the people who design and build these boats need to be forced to work on them.
