I have seen warning signs all over my Marina this year that the state of Maryland is forcing the use of Ethanol blend fuel. I have read postings that say that it eats the resin out of older fiberglass fuel tanks (mid 1980's vintage and older). This weakens the tanks to the point of leaking and/or coats the intake valves with disolved resin and blows the motors! I read that "vinylester" resin is not a problem with the ethanol fuel. I bought a 1977 40' Jersey dawn with fiberglass fuel tanks last summer. This news is making me sick! I don't want to rip up my decks and put in new tanks! Does anyone know how to tell if you have vinylester resin vs. other kinds? Has anyone else researched this and found anything out?
