Need to replace starboard SS tube as it has rusted a bit and has a small leak. It's 8" dia. and 34" long. Searay wants $1700.00. Can get a 10' length of marine grade fiberglass exhaust for $550. Any reason why I can't use the fiberglass? Thanks.

Actually I can’t understand why anyone would use SS for exhaust tubing. I redid the exhaust on my boat during the repower last year and we used a combo of FG tube and hoses. Exhaust run is about 22’ long on each side from the midship ERs to the stern

If you using fiberglass you should install SS crush sleeves inside the tube so the T clamp don’t crack the glass

Maybe ...Shields Nautiflex ( blue/red silicone exhaust hose) 8" dia. x 3' long, at $266.00? It's rated for up to 350*F continuous.

Centek doesn't seem to specify their 8" Vernatube heat rating but that is certainly a reasonable choice too.
Too bad they apparently only have the smooth white "yacht finish" up to about 6" dia. as far as I could see.

Pascal has a very good point about inside support under the clamped area.

If you do one side it may be wise to replace the other side at the same time, no?

Thanks to both. Although the port looks brand new, up I may swap it out anyway. It would bother me aesthetically.

May look good on the outside but who knows what s lurking inside.
