Anyone have a favorite mild compound they like? Need to bring back some luster to a 1998.

Thanks _ James

We don't compound, we wash then use 3M cleaner wax.
Our boat is old, but shiney.

Okay so Buff Magic it is. What kind of pad (wool or foam) and at what speed setting? I have both a Harbor Freight buffer and the Porter Cable random orbit.

Rotary buffer works best, I like wool pads but have used foam with good results too. Wool is a bit sturdier to get the finish real shiny.

Should I use the white or yellow wool pads? Also what speed setting on the rotary buffer from Harbor Freight?

buff magic followed by the pro polish. Buff magic applied with a chip brush then spread with a 1700 rpm rotary buffer till product is worked out. Followed by application of pro polish applied using orbital buffer, worked in well, left to haze over, where I then remove the haze a buff out with terry towels by hand.Excellent product for older gel coat

Yellow pads cut less than the white pads. You mentioned a need for a mild compound, so I would go with the yellow pad and see if you get the result you're happy with.

My money is betting that you will be thrilled with the results.

I use the method that Sublimetime uses, with the chip brush, I duct tape the buff magic can to the side of my ladder so I don't have to worry about the can falling over, makes it easy and quicker to use.

Stupid question - what is a chip brush? I was thinking of using a foam brush like I use for staining furniture.

Cheapo $1.00-$2.00 bristle paint brush. Found in big boxes and ships stores.

I apply Buff magic with a foam wax applicator pad like I would any wax. I then work it in with the rotary buffer. I do about 3 ft sections at a time. Take what little is left behind off by hand.

Yes, her name is Penny. I do not know what products she uses, but my boat looks ten years younger after she started being my detailer! Maybe I should hire her to work on my face too?
