After to many years of being landlocked, and a big fiasco of a lemon boat last year, we took the plunge on what we hope will be a good boat to get our sea legs back under us.

We've been searching for months, contemplated buying new but decided to wait on that until we determined if we'd be able to make the time to enjoy a boat enough to justify it.

I stumbled upon the listing Thursday night, drove three hours Friday to check it out and ended up bringing her home.

I was looking at two online, this one and one with a Mercury. Honestly, I remembered what you said about the hard working Yamahas around the islands and figured this one would be my better bet. Plus the boat is in very good condition...just got her registered today so we're going to try to hit a lake tomorrow...

So far so good... I cleaned up some wiring, cleaned the carbs a bit, and replaced the spark plugs. Then spent about 3 hours zipping around a local lake. She'll hit about 40 at around 4800 RPM and cruises nicely around 30 at about 4200. I think that will pick up a bit once I get the old fuel run out of the tank. It's a 55 gallon tank and was full of fuel that smelled pretty stale when I pumped some into a jar. I've run down about half a tank so far, once I get it down a bit more I'll fill up with fresh gas.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether it's worthwhile to use non-ethanol gas on a motor this age (1997)? There is a gas station not too far away that has it...
 
Ethanol doesn't store well for long so use non ethanol.

The best way IMO to get rid of old fuel is to run the tank low then just add as much as you will need for that day. Then do it again. I know it is a PITA but diluting half a tank each time takes many refills before it is all gone.
