Does anyone know any more details on the fire this afternoon in a Freeport marina? The news said that two people who had been working on a boat were critically injuresd when it exploded and that 20 or more boats were destroyed by the fire. Hopefully, the injured will recover. Boats can be replaced; people can't. Hy

I heard it was WD marina.......about 18 boats destroyed.

The two boat mechanics at Approved Marine "were removing a motor from one of the boats and there must have been a spark," said Mark Stuparich, chief of the Freeport Fire Department, which received the alarm at 3:44 p.m. The two workers were taken to Nassau County Medical Center for treatment of their burns. Their conditions were not known.

I heard about a dozen destroyed and many more covered in soot.

It would be a shame to destroy a nice boat like yours. It would be far better to see someone else get it enjoy her!

I See my old boat from time to time and it always brings a smile to my face, I loved my old boat.

Dave......I agree..... I get to see one of my old Sea Rays.....that I sold about 12 years ago.......not only does it bring back good memories......but the new owner and I have been good friends for the past 12 years. He still has the boat and loves it.

Now it says the two mechanics were removing a fuel tank, using a power saw, that they thought was empty.

I see my old boat in AYC every winter, he stores it there. Loved that boat.
