I remember someone writing about using white vinegar once in a while to sanitize the holding tank but I don't remember how much it is needed for the job.

White vinegar is not used to sanitize anything having to do with a holding tank. It is used to dissolve mineral buildup inside your hoses. It is added to the toilet bowl (an 8 oz. cup weekly - no more than that) the last thing at night, just before retiring, so that it will stay in the lines overnight.
