Hi,
My 1982 3396 Mariner has Fram permanent metal canister type fuel filter/water seperaters with a metal replacement cartridge labeled Napa Gold 3310. The cartridge has holes all around the housing to allow the water to seperate and fall to the bottom of the permanent canister. The current Napa item is not threaded and is solid metal so would not work as a water seperater. Anyone have this setup?

Eddie, my 2896 also has the FRAM setup, with a Fram C1110PL cartridge inside. There is a little screw on the bottom of the canister that you can use to let the water out...

I would suggest getting the correct cartridge from your marine dealer...

The Fram filters can be hard to find but you should be able to find Wix 33110. Maybe the Napa number you need is 33110 something. I have 3 of these on my Mainship. According to Fram they quit make the housing 15 years ago. Supposedly another manufacture bought the rights but I couldn’t find them. Be careful when changing the filter that you don’t over tighten the center bolt. One of mine was stripped and I had the hardest time getting a new housing. I finally found a new one at an online auto parts place in Texas.

Good luck

Thanks guys. I discovered that the original owner had the documentation from the filters in one of 3 notebook binders that were on the boat. At least someone took care of this boat. The last owner was a pig and had neglected it for, at least, a couple of years.
The filters are available from www.rockauto.com for 5.42 each. The paperwork warns to limit torquing the bolt to 15 ft/lbs of torque, thats about wrist tight with a 9/16" combination wrench.

I have trouble finding things on boatfix. I searched their site first for Fram filters and found nothing similar.
